About Cube Escape: The Mill

Cube Escape: The Mill is part of the Cube Escape series by Rusty Lake. Like every game in the series, it takes place in a single cube-shaped room that you explore wall by wall, collecting objects, solving small mechanical puzzles and cracking codes until the room gives up its secret.

The Mill moves the action to a mysterious mill whose machinery hides a much darker purpose. It is one of the most mechanical rooms in the series, with gears, levers and contraptions to figure out.

The series is known for its atmosphere: hand-drawn, dreamlike and a little disturbing, with recurring characters, symbols and memories that link every room to the same mysterious place. A single room usually takes between twenty and forty minutes, which makes each one a satisfying session on its own.

How to play

  • Click the arrows to turn and look at each wall.
  • Click objects to examine them or pick them up.
  • Use items from your inventory on the room.

The game is played with the mouse only.

The rest of the series

This is the fifth room on our Cube Escape page, which lists them all in order. Continue with the previous room, Case 23 and the next one, Birthday, or explore more of the escape room box.

Stuck? Hints, gentlest first

Hint 1 – turn around

Every Cube Escape room has four walls, plus a floor and ceiling worth checking. Use the arrows to look at each side before solving anything.

Hint 2 – numbers and symbols are codes

Any number, colour sequence or symbol you see is probably the answer to a lock somewhere else in the room. Note them all.

Hint 3 – examine your items

Items in the inventory can be zoomed in on and often hide something or combine with another item.
