Cube Escape – the Rusty Lake escape games

Short, strange and connected – the Cube Escape series by Rusty Lake turns a single cube-shaped room into a piece of a much bigger mystery.

Where to start

Every Cube Escape game in order

One room, many secrets

Each Cube Escape game is a single, cube-shaped room seen from four walls. You click, collect, combine and decode until the room gives up its secret – and then the game leaves you with a new question. The series by Rusty Lake started in 2015 and quickly became the defining escape games of the late Flash era: short enough to finish in one sitting, but full of recurring characters, symbols and a mysterious lake that ties everything together.

The order

  1. Harvey's Box
  2. Arles
  3. The Lake
  4. Case 23
  5. The Mill
  6. Birthday
  7. Theatre

Where to start

You can play each Cube Escape on its own, but the story rewards playing in release order: Case 23 follows detective Dale Vandermeer, The Lake shows the place itself, and later rooms bring back faces from earlier ones. Most rooms take 20 to 40 minutes. Watch for numbers and symbols on every wall – they are almost always part of a code.

After Cube Escape

Rusty Lake still makes games, including paid titles that continue this story. If you enjoy these, support the studio by playing their newer games on their own site and app stores.
