About Sword and Sandals 2

Sword and Sandals 2: Emperor's Reign is a gladiator RPG by Oliver Joyce. You start by creating a fighter – their name, look and starting stats – and then step into the arena. Every victory brings money and experience, which you spend on better weapons, armour and stat increases. Slowly, a nervous rookie turns into a champion who can challenge the arena's legends.

Fights are turn-based and played side-on. On each turn you choose what to do: step forward, step back, make a quick or a powerful attack, taunt the opponent or rest to recover energy. Distance and stamina matter as much as raw strength, and every opponent has a different style. It is a game of patience and planning, with a satisfying sense of progress as your gladiator grows.

Stuck? Hints, gentlest first

Hint 1 – specialise

Spread-out stat points make a weak gladiator. Pick a focus – strength and attack, or agility and defence – and build around it.

Hint 2 – manage stamina

Heavy attacks drain energy. When you are low, rest for a turn or use a lighter move instead of being left helpless.

Hint 3 – the crowd matters

Taunting and showing off can win the crowd, which helps you in the arena. Use it when you have a moment of safety.
