Light Bot 2.0
The puzzle that taught you to code.

About Light Bot 2.0
Light Bot 2.0 is a 2008 programming puzzle game by Danny Yaroslavski. A small robot stands on a grid of tiles, some of them blue. Your goal is to light up every blue tile. You do not control the robot directly; instead, you build a program from a set of command tiles – move forward, turn left, turn right, jump, light – and press Run to watch the robot follow it.
The challenge is space. Each program has only a few slots, so long paths cannot be written out step by step. Light Bot 2.0 gives you functions – small sub-programs you can call from the main one – and lets functions call themselves, so you can build loops. Learning to break a path into repeated patterns is exactly how programmers think, and the game teaches it one satisfying level at a time.
How to play Light Bot 2.0
- Drag commands from the toolbar into the main program and function slots.
- Press Run to watch the robot execute the program.
- Clear and fix the program if the robot goes wrong.
The game is played with the mouse only.

Stuck? Hints, gentlest first
Hint 1 – trace it by hand
Before running a program, follow the robot's path in your head, command by command. Most mistakes are a turn in the wrong direction.
Hint 2 – use functions
The main program has limited space. When you repeat the same moves, put them in a function and call it instead.
Hint 3 – recursion
In later levels a function can call itself. That creates a loop that repeats until the robot can no longer move – often the key to fitting a long path into a few slots.
Light Bot by Danny Yaroslavski was a hit on Armor Games, and Light Bot 2.0 expanded it in 2008. Teachers loved it and players often only realised afterwards that they had been learning the basics of programming – sequences, functions and loops – the whole time.
FAQ
Does Light Bot teach programming?
Yes, in a playful way. You write short programs of commands, reuse them as functions and build loops, which are the same ideas used in real programming languages.
Can I still play Light Bot 2.0 in 2026?
Yes. Adobe stopped supporting Flash in 2020, but Light Bot 2.0 runs on this page through a Flash emulator built into the player. Press Play and it starts in a few seconds.
Do I need Flash Player to play Light Bot 2.0?
